THE HIDDEN: R.I.P. 2002-2007

STEAL OUR MUSIC
These are mp3's of our 4 records (2 EP's and 2 LP's, although the difference between a 21-minute EP and a 28-minute LP is debatable), as well as a slew of "rarities" and live recordings that we thought the discerning Hidden fan might want to store in their vault. This is, as far as we can tell, pretty exhaustive in terms of our output, aside from rehearsal tapes, which absolutely noone wants to hear. For your convenience, the following can be downloaded as .zip files- just right-click on the album zip file link and select "Save As". If you feel a pang of guilt and want to pay for our albums, or if you want a copy with all of the artwork, liner notes, etc., visit the OUR RECORDS link on the left. Have fun stealing our music that we sweated and agonized over, you cheap thieving bastards; enjoy yourself whilst picking at our decaying corpse! And above all, remember that if you had purchased any of these records, they would all say in large letters on the back "TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME", and that the same maxim applies to these digital what-have-you's.

Live, 5/30/03, New Wave Cafe, New Bedford, MA
This show was recorded by our pal Tim Graham from Cape Cod. He used to be in The Fleece, and later went on to be in The Euphrates, who we played a number of really rad shows with. This show was somewhat unremarkable until the end, when we did a cover of Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown" and a full-on fight broke out, which you can hear were. This is pretty entertaining, to say the least.

1. Nervous Breakdown (Black Flag cover, live, 5/30/03)

Analog Divide demos (2003, 3 songs)
Before we went back to Chicago to record what would become Smash To Ashes, we decided to record a few songs at Analog Divide Studio, which is run by our pals in Black Helicopter. The version of "Settlement" that is here is the one that wound up on the Traktor7 compilation "Theft, Arson, Vice, Murder & Death". This is all engineered by Tim Shea, and was never mastered.

2. Settlement
3. Sharpening Knives

This set is our preliminary set in the Rumble; I guess they gave us all free recordings of the shows, which is why we have this in the first place. It's a pretty sloppy set, but that is pretty much what all of our shows were like. Still, it was probably one of our better shows. Listen at the end for Kevin giving away money to the audience.

Smash To Ashes (2005, 10 songs)
We recorded and mixed The Hymnal EP in Chicago in only two days; so we figured if we went back for three days it would be a piece of cake, right? Hardly. Technical problems during the recording had us biting our nails about whether we could finish the record in time. We managed to finish it, mostly due to a 16-hour final day of recording and mixing (thanks, Steve!), and we still love the results of this record, but it wasn't easy...

Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, Illinois by Steve Albini.
Mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless in Newton, Massachusetts.

Church & War EP (2005, 6 songs)
So yeah, Church & War was our task to each pick a song for the band to learn. The Misfits oddity was Kevin's pick; Judas Priest was Tanya's; James picked the Big Black cover; Mario picked Holy Cow; and Dan picked Mission of Burma. Some of our second picks might have been really bizarre, especially if we had actually carried through on the proposed Missing Persons cover.

Around the same time we worked out a set of Sabbath covers including a ten-minute version of the Dio-era classic "Heaven And Hell" that unfortunately was never recorded at all. As Ronnie himself would say, "oh well..."

It's also worth noting that "Work" was a song that Medea Connection covered for years and years, and probably 80% of Hidden shows closed with "Work". The original is a fucking classic.

Recorded, mixed & mastered by Richard Marr at Galaxy Park Studio in Allston, Massachusetts

This is live in the studio on Shred's Boston Emissions local music show. It was odd because we all played in the studio room and they just used a couple of mics pointed towards the band, so the sound is more of an audience recording than a super-pro studio recording, but it still is pretty interesting. The interview is fascinating as well, mostly because it shows what dull interviewees we were.

Live, 10/31/06, WMBR Pipeline, Cambridge, MA (acoustic)
Right before we played Pipeline on Halloween, Tanya realized that she couldn't come back to Boston for the show, so we decided to play acoustic, and it came out pretty awesome. We had to kind of drastically re-work the songs and it definitely gives them a weird feel.

Winged Wolves: Megamixxx (2006, 11 songs)
There was a long break between when we recorded Winged Wolves and when we eventually mastered and released it; during that downtime, Daniel played with the tracks in Nero, and produced a "megamixxx" of the album that is really blown-out and over-distorted. As awesome as the final mastered version of the album is, in some ways this version is more true to the sound of The Hidden, and if you like Winged Wolves, you might enjoy this version of it.
